Mike Thomas is an Internal Audit and Fraud Prevention Consultant with more than 40 years of experience in the banking industry. A retired Partner from Crowe LLP’s Financial Institution Risk Consulting practice, he has advised financial institutions on risk management, fraud prevention, quality assurance assessments, and internal audit transformation. Throughout his career, Mike has also coordinated outsourced internal audit, IT audit, loan review, and compliance services, helping organizations strengthen governance, manage risk, and enhance operational effectiveness. Prior to Crowe, he held leadership roles with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP and SunTrust Banks (now Truist).
A recognized industry educator and speaker, Mike frequently presents on internal audit, risk management, fraud prevention, and banking topics. He has served as a Distinguished Faculty Member of the Institute of Internal Auditors and an Adjunct Faculty Member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, while also teaching for numerous banking and financial services organizations nationwide. Mike holds a BBA in Accounting from Columbus State University and maintains multiple professional certifications, including CPA, CIA, CBA, CFE, CRP, CFF, and CRMA, reflecting his extensive expertise in auditing, fraud examination, risk management, and financial forensics.
Joyce Meyer, CFSA, is a Managing Director in Crowe LLP’s Financial Institution Risk Consulting practice and has more than 22 years of experience providing internal audit services to the banking industry. She serves financial institutions across the United States, ranging from newly established credit unions and community banks to organizations with more than $25 billion in assets. Joyce is recognized for her ability to build and lead high-performing teams and for helping institutions address regulatory challenges and strengthen their control environments.
Her expertise includes developing and overseeing risk-based internal audit programs, evaluating financial, accounting, and operational controls, validating management action plans related to regulatory findings, and reporting results to executive management and governing committees. Joyce also serves as a subject matter expert in areas such as SOX and FDICIA consulting, Quality Assessment Reviews (QARs), Regulation AB and USAP compliance, mortgage banking and secondary marketing, electronic banking, wire transfer operations, accounting and deposit operations, and third-party risk and vendor management. She is known for helping financial institutions enhance governance, manage risk effectively, and meet evolving regulatory expectations.
Diana Gonzalez is an Operational Internal Audit Senior Manager with Crowe LLP and a leader within the firm’s Financial Services Consulting practice, serving banks and financial institutions throughout the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic regions. With more than ten years of experience, she partners with internal audit leaders to develop, execute, and enhance risk-based internal audit programs. Her expertise spans operational internal audits, governance and risk management, regulatory compliance, technology and cybersecurity, third-party risk, model risk, and liquidity risk, and she regularly leads enterprise-wide audit engagements for financial institutions of various sizes.
In addition to leading internal audit outsourcing and co-sourcing engagements, Diana conducts annual risk assessments, develops audit plans, and helps internal audit functions deliver practical, actionable results. She is recognized for translating complex regulatory requirements into scalable audit strategies aligned with day-to-day operations. Beyond client service, Diana contributes to industry education through banking association training programs focused on internal audit, risk management, and regulatory topics. She holds both a Master of Accounting and Bachelor of Accounting from Florida International University, is a Florida-licensed CPA, and is an active member of the AICPA, Florida Institute of CPAs, and Institute of Internal Auditors.
