As part of the Office of Thrift Supervision's Consumer Protection Week series, yesterday the agency unveiled a brochure, "Consumer Fact Sheet: Buying, Giving, and Using Gift Cards," that gives advice on gift cards issued by financial institutions.
The brochure highlights issues consumers should consider when buying and using gift cards. They include checking gift card program terms and conditions, being aware of expiration dates, understanding fees, and determining if a card can be replaced if lost or stolen.
